One Vehicle Accident Resulting in Fire (SH288)

Manvel, TX – May 19, 2006 –
At
approximately 1:50 PM, Manvel Police Department received
a called in reference to a vehicle fire on State Highway
288 and Rodeo Palms Parkway. Manvel Police Department
along with Manvel Volunteer Fire Department were
dispatched to this location. Upon arrival it was
determined that Latarcia Alex, a 38 year black female
from Fresno, TX, was driving a 2005 GMC Envoy pulling a
22-foot RV. Alex stated the trailer began to sway back
and forth due to the wind of a larger vehicle passing.
Alex was unable to regain control of the trailer
resulting in her colliding with a concrete barrier. Upon
impact with the barrier the Envoy caught fire. Resulting
from the collision, the trailer became dislodged and
flipped on its side blocking both Northbound lanes of
traffic. Manvel Volunteer Fire Department was able to
extinguish the vehicle. Driver of the Envoy was cited
for no towing safety chains. No injuries resulted in the
incident.
