Head-On Collision
on Highway 6 Results in Two Fatalities On Thursday, March 30, 2006 at approximately 4:20 pm, Manvel Police Department received a 911 call of a reckless driver traveling East Bound in the 19000 block of Highway 6. At approximately 4:20 pm, a Manvel PD Officer arrived in the area to investigate. The Officer discovered an accident and determined that this was related to the reckless driver call. Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Tan Toyota SUV, who was the suspected reckless driver, had been driving east bound in the westbound lane when he struck another driver operating a Silver Honda SUV. The driver of the Tan Toyota SUV has been identified as 42 year old Randy Ray Grimm out of Alvin, Texas. The driver of the Silver Honda SUV has been identified as 43 year old Claire Denise King of Houston, Texas. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene by Brazoria County JP2-1 Judge John Vasut. Two passengers in the Silver Honda SUV were seriously injured. One was a 14 year old female and was transported via Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. The second passenger was a 9 year old male and was transported by Pearland EMS to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Both passengers have been reported in stable condition. The two vehicles listed above were the only two vehicles involved in the accident. All lanes of Highway 6 were shutdown for about two hours. Witnesses had noticed Mr. Grimm traveling eastbound on Highway 6 smoking what appeared to be a cigarette. It is suspected that the driver was under the influence of either alcohol or drugs, but is unknown at this time.
